In the first semi-final of the ODI World Cup, host India has defeated New Zealand by 70 runs. Both the teams were face to face once again in the semi-finals after four years. In 2019, the Kiwi team shattered the dreams of millions of Indians by reaching the finals. However, this time around, India sought vengeance for their previous defeat and emerged victorious against New Zealand. The Indian team is now set to compete in the final in Ahmedabad on November 19th, awaiting the winner between South Africa and Australia from the second semi-final. In the recent match, India won the toss, chose to bat first, and posted a formidable total of 397 runs, losing four wickets in the process. The Kiwi team, in response, could only manage to score 327 runs before losing all their wickets.


India defeated New Zealand


India has defeated New Zealand by 70 runs. Team India has secured a spot in the ODI World Cup final for the fourth time after a commanding performance. Opting to bat first, India posted a formidable total of 397 runs, losing four wickets within the allocated 50 overs. In response, New Zealand faced a setback, being all out for 327 in 48.5 overs, resulting in a 70-run victory for India. Virat Kohli led the charge with a top score of 117 runs, while Shreyas Iyer contributed a notable 105 runs. Shubhman Gill added an unbeaten 80 runs, with Captain Rohit scoring 47 and Lokesh Rahul finishing at 39 not out. Tim Southee claimed three wickets, and Trent Boult secured one for New Zealand.


Daryl Mitchell scored 134 runs for New Zealand. Captain Kane Williamson scored 69 runs during his innings. Glenn Phillips contributed 41 runs. Both Kiwi openers Conway and Rachin returned to the pavilion with a score of 13 runs. Mohammed Shami took seven wickets for India. Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Siraj and Kuldeep Yadav got one wicket each.



In the first innings, India set a commanding total by opting to bat after winning the toss. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill provided a strong start, crossing 50 runs in the powerplay. Rohit completed his 50th six in the World Cup but fell short of a half-century, departing at 47. Despite losing a wicket, Team India scored 84 runs in the powerplay. Gill and Virat Kohli propelled the score beyond 150 before Gill, who had reached a half-century in 41 balls, retired hurt due to cramps after scoring 79 runs in 65 balls.


Virat Kohli, along with Shreyas Iyer, extended India's score beyond 200. Kohli set a World Cup record for the most runs, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar's 673 runs. The duo achieved a century partnership, pushing India's total beyond 250. Virat Kohli notched his 50th ODI century, guiding India past 300 runs before being dismissed at 117. Shreyas Iyer, joined by Rahul, accelerated the innings, taking India past 350. Shreyas completed his century in 67 balls, scoring 105 runs with four fours and eight sixes. Suryakumar Yadav was out after scoring one run in the 49th over. Lokesh Rahul's unbeaten 39 and Shubman Gill's unbeaten 80 pushed India to a formidable total of 397 runs. Tim Southee took three wickets, and Trent Boult took one for New Zealand.


In the second innings, New Zealand started their chase aggressively but lost two quick wickets to Mohammed Shami. Kane Williamson's partnership with Daryl Mitchell, amounting to 181 runs, brought the Kiwi team back into contention. Shami dismissed Williamson for 69 runs, turning the tide in India's favor. Tom Latham fell without opening his account in the same over. Glenn Phillips and Mitchell added 75 runs, but Phillips' dismissal for 41 brought India back into the match. Chapman and Mitchell were also dismissed, and with mounting pressure on the run rate, Mitchell's departure after scoring 134 runs confirmed India's victory. Santner and Southee were out for nine runs each, Ferguson scored six, and Bolt remained unbeaten with two runs. Shami claimed seven wickets for India, while Bumrah, Siraj, and Kuldeep took one wicket each.
